In honour of the Temple’s 50th anniversary, from early this year Bhaktivedanta Manor’s harinama procession team made a special effort to share the Holy Names far and wide. Between July 28th and September 9th, the team managed to chant, sing and dance along the streets of more than 50 towns and villages, which had never been visited before. From Bovington to Boxmoor, and from Hazelmere to Hockliffe it was a magnificent achievement!
As many devotees and well-wishers already know, this year marks Bhaktivedanta Manor’s 50th anniversary (1973 – 2023). In February 1973 deeds were signed, beginning the process of George Harrison’s extremely generous donation to Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON. A few months later, the devotees moved into the Manor and converted it into a temple and ashram. As part of Bhaktivedanta Manor’s on-going 50th anniversary celebrations, Shyamasundar das (born Sam Speerstra) made a special summer trip to the UK to share his precious memories and spend time with the devotees. He shared material which is included in his three-part memoir Chasing Rhinos with the Swami, especially his most recent book, Part 3, which includes the early 1970’s period onward.
